New Art from Mhari Baxter and Robert Powell,
In a visual world the other senses are often ignored, this is to the
advantage of this sneakily manipulative exhibition that aims to control
the audience through prescribing their sensory input. An evil scheme
indeed.
Andre White
18th February-1st March
White's
work is predominantly concerned with what we think of the environment and how
it defines us as human beings.
Nature and the wilderness, have become detached from the human psyche in
most Western and developed countries, no longer is it our sustaining and
nurturing planet but rather something to be conquered and exploited.
By
drawing upon the sublime associations with our more primal subconscious where
nature helped defined our sense of being and identity the work seeks to bring
back that feeling of amazement and wonder for the natural world.
Vide|John Robertson
8-14th February
Paintings of sites where Blaise Pascal's vacuum
experiment was performed are
accompanied by a recreation of the experiment itself.
The work reviews the 17th Century mathematician's relationship with the notion
of
'void' and seeks a visual language analagous to it.
