Re: Behind the Scenes meeting, Thurs 15th, 8pm

Nobody made it except me & Chris. It was very productive meeting. We decided to scrap funding for everything except the website, which needs new colors. And to put biometric locks on everything.

Behind the Scenes meeting, Thurs 15th, 8pm

Ok, so I forgot to hold the last BTS meeting. No matter. The next one will be on Thursday 15th April at 8pm.

The current remit of the behind the scenes group includes: internet, computers, technology, shop, grants, and general admin/paperwork.

Be there or don't be square.

its pretty standard that links that leave a site open in a new page not true! Most other sites do this (guardian, ) they shouldn't! i doubt my above points change your opinion! correct! web links opening in new page

Hi. I clicked on forest records from the forest homepage and it opened in a new window. Just wanted to point out that this is bad practice in web design. If you're going to open a new window for someone you should have a damn good reason. Otherwise, you should let them keep things in the same window...

While I'm reluctant to join the pro-Tumblr movement, I have to say that I think pretty much all Jane's & Chris's points about the look & feel of the site are valid. I also have to agree with Chris's views about the urgency of the situation, taking into account what he's trying to do and how the site...

Re: our website, so big and scrolly

I suggest we all get together in a meeting, which will need a good facilitator who is not firmly in either camp, and use the options from the poll as a starting point to come to a consensus. We don't need to be this serious about it. It's a website! A simple compromise is required. Let's give Joach...

I like! A bit arcane, maybe, for anyone who isn't web-savvy... you might consider making the labels visible all the time... but that could take away some of its charm. Should def increase the size of the hover area for theatre, as that's easy to miss.

Drupal is a good system since it offers a lot of options. However, it's very technical and it requires a lot of time from Milk to get it to do things. This could be seen as a drawback, but if Milk's happy to put the effort in then maybe it's no problem. The real problem is that Milk is being left to...

Good point about the shop. We're still up for having some action there if someone wants to do it. Likewise the grants. They could come back, but someone would need to take it on as a project. And we're struggling a bit money-wise, so maybe now isn't the time. The activities that are getting complete...

I don't know whether it's better to stick to the traditional time, or just schedule something that people can make it to. My feeling is that, rather than have an under-attended and ultimately fruitless BTS meeting, it would be better to have a tech crew meeting sometime that's convenient for all. Ei...

Also, continous non-stop music isn't always neccesary - sometimes music is more appreciated when it comes between spells of silence/cafe ambience... I agree about this. However, people definitely prefer music to no music simply because it makes it a lot easier to have private conversation. But that...

While it might be cool to have a proper olde-worlde jukebox in the cafe, I agree that having to pay for the music would suck. Also it seems this would be very limiting to the amount of music we could share. And CDs are likely to skip & jump and make all sorts of offensive noises. Old-fashioned, and ...

I've got one for you. It is very low spec. It's got 2x128MB of PC100 RAM. If anyone can come up with a couple of 256s, that'd be great.

I've got a keyboard & mouse for you but no monitor. Get one easily off Freecycle if you need it.

Is it to run Linux or Windows?

When do you want it dropped off?

Mike! Knowing what you know about the workings of this here thing, any chance you can fix it to display "You have no unread posts" instead of "View unread posts" when you have no unread posts. Would be worth doing if it's an easy hack?

That's quite a good idea.

My first thought was what if someone mistypes and accidentally logs on as someone else? But this wouldn't happen with random groups of 3 words.

My second thought is what if someone starts randomly typing in groups of 3 words?

Chombee speaks wisdom. These Macs are G3s. You might be able to get Linux to run on them, but it would be a hassle and they would run slower. The fastest thing you can run on the lovely pink one is Tiger (which it has already). Unfortunately, the other one (garish blue) won't run Tiger. It would run...
