Popcorn on Monday (4/12)

Postby swithun » Sat Dec 02, 2006 5:06 pm

I was talking to one of the volunteers today - Christie - and she gave me her recipe for popcorn. It is 1/3 cup of kernels to 3 table spoons of oil. This never fails, apparently. We can try it on Monday to see how much of a market there is.

I'm night managing on Monday, but I also have to pop down to an Infoseed meeting. Will anyone else be around to press play on the DVD player?

The popcorn that Christie made was the dogs bollocks. But no one bought any, so we ended up giving it away. I'll try again next week. But if there isn't much of a market, then perhaps buying an expensive machine isn't going to be worthwhile. But if the machine was cheap, or if we stick with the pan method, then it might be easier to just put it out on the tables for free. With the kitchen closed, free popcorn wouldn't hit the kitchen's pocket.

yeah, a small bowl might be cool, and might even encourage people to buy some

does "dogs bollocks" mean good or bad?

a small, houshold popcorn machine costs about 20 quid on ebay. I'm not sure if we should get one. Better to see if anyone will ever want to buy popcorn first.

I can't believe that no one woud buy popcorn during a film.

In cinemas they sell you the popcorn from a special snacks stand that is cunningly located so that you pass it on the way into the film. Also maybe we could get someone to walk around during the film shouting 'Popcorn! Get your popcorn!'

I've had it with you. If I had an image of a laser gun I would absolutely position it right here in my hand...
Ha! I have a real laser absolutely positioned in my hand!

Dog's bollocks, mutt's nuts, canine's cojones. It's all good. On the other hand, dog's cock is bad. I don't make the rules.

I second a specified popcorn seller. I think we should get Swithun a little dress and a box with a strap.

I can't think of anything else to make my film experience better.

Anyway, I'm assuming it's cheap to make popcorn, were we selling it for too much? Maybe only do it as a small mark up. And, if you make it salty people will buy more drinks. Good to see all those hours playing 'Theme Park' havn't gone to waste.

In general, I think it's sweet to have it on offer.

Later, Alex*

I think I employed him once in my hospital. He killed and offended most of his patients. And he just played pool all the time. That's what you get for hiring cheap staff.

The popcorn is so cheap that the oil and electricity probably cost more. It is easier just to give it away. I leave it plain and people can put sugar on it if they want, or they can look for the salt.
