events budget - major matt mason --

Post by ravanwin » Tue Sep 02, 2008 11:28 am

Ok -

So - Dan from withered hand (whom i totally dig) wanted to hire the hall for a gig but he wants to charge entry.

First: The Gig:

Legendary, New York Anti-Folk Hero Major Matt Mason who runs olive juice music. You can find this stuff online. Plus, they reckon
francis macdonald from Teenage Fanclub and also Withered Hand would play.

I said, obviously, that we can't charge (though we could consider a temp. events licensce) but I asked how much the guys would be expecting to make. He said around £75 for matt and maybe with £100 they could get Francis through from Glasgow. I reckon we could

1) give them the hall for the night of Nov. 2nd. (sunday - James or Lynn can you block this date on the eus calendar?)

2) give them £100 + 50% of corkage.

Dan says he'll promote the fuck out of it. It seems like quite a big thing and we should be able to do it. Obviously, in the dream model we'd be set up to make this stuff happen without losing money but this seems like a good oppertunity to have something big and good in the forest, to attract a lot of people to our space and to make a lovely evening. we should also make sure the ground floor is quiet.

can you guys let me know what you think in a couple of days?

Thanks!
ryan

sounds like an amazing night.

Do we not hire the hall from EUS anyway? Can they not hire it from them for the night and therefor sell tickets at the cost they want?

£100 + 50% corkage seems good though - is the corkage just for corkage upstairs or for the Forest as a whole on the night? if it's just for upstairs then won't they get less money if people are opening downstairs then wandering upstairs to a free gig? I'm sure you meant for the whole of the Forest but just checking.

Would be cool to make it into a huge thing involving upstairs and downstairs of the Forest as one complete event.

they won't sell tix or ask for donations. just merch and the traveling expenses which we give them. yes - maybe we could do something cool / big / weird downstairs at the same time. could be really nice.

this is public forum?
Maybe it could work? But it will be a kaleidoscopic blend of mysterious shadows and rainbow hued-dreams seen through compassionate tears.

i could potentially pick up francis from glasgow and get him home again. would cost a lot less than £100! could also give him a place to crash without much bother...
