supercool gig tonight at the bowery

The Debutante Hour - the exalted hour of debutantes, where life is an endless cotillion with a full dance card. Maria, Susan, Sarah and Vin conjure up an hour of accordion, flugelhorn, toy piano, and occasional guiro on songs about any given thing in a debutante's head - lost love, weird love, guitar heros and the devil (sometimes in Ukrainian).

Since releasing their self-titled EP in 2008, the Debutante Hour have performed live on WFMU with Julain Kytastky and the Experimental Bandura Trio; toured South Korea, Japan and Germany; and shared a stage with Debbie Harry and Nellie McKay for The Living Theatre. Susan and Maria also recorded backing vocals for The Hold Steady's recent album "Stay Positive".

“The place is rammed...and the show does not disappoint. Reminiscent of Miranda July and complemented by a deadpan delivery, Alland's words are at once both drolly funny and sweetly strange...Y. Josephine's vocals and percussion really shine and embody the set with the kind of soul spoken word frequently lacks."

"Beavis' subtle guitar acts as bed for a voice which treads liberally through the realms of folk, blues, jazz and soul - there is no ego to Beavis' self penned offerings, whose universal subject matter are both personal and touching." -
