Forest frequently asked and unasked questions - FFAUQ

Post by milk » Thu Jun 25, 2009 4:51 pm

Does anyone have questions about any area of The Forest they would like to know the answer to? Why and how things are done the way they are, etc. Questions and answers will eventually be compiled into a list to go on the new Forest website.

Lets FFAUQ it!

Oh, for FFAUQ sake! Can anyone think of a question they could think the uninitiated might ask about The Forest?

Basically, anything from straight forward to esoteric that isn't covered by the volunteer guide.

The last time we had the Cafe piano tuned was on 11th February 2009!

(I looked it up in the accounts...sad but true!)

Hi im part of a group in Manchester that wants to start a new centre, i was wondering what the story of the forest was... how did it come about, are you entirely autonomous or do you have financial backing from a group? what's the deal with the lease on your building? have you taken loans out? Someone told me that you rent your building from the University or something simular? Any Info would be great

Thanks,

Rick

hi rick -

don't have time to answer all of these questions.

usually we have a grow your own forest page on the website but I can't find it. Maybe someone in bb land can find it and get you there. It should be someplace online.

After you get a read - drop us a line with any further questions or call the cafe 0131 220 4538

R

Q: Tell me about the history of The Forest?

A: Well milk, I can give a brief description, but currently no fuller history exists so I've started a page on my wiki that Foresters with the appropriate knowledge will help fill in!

hey,

I went through with the old page where it talks abt the history of Forest.

I just wonder the people who originally gave in some money originally to set up Forest, Are they Still there....
and if they are how are they working within the org.

and most importantly Now with the Success of Concept, are they getting paid; or infact any of the management getting paid for it?

Thanks

Hey there,

some of the original people are still around and are still interacting with the space, mambers of various working groups and on the Forest Working Group, however they don't get paid. The only positions getting paid are Kitchen Managers and Admin staff at the moment. This grew out of need, as for the Kitchen to run successfully over time it was decided a KM needed to be paid, and as we grew into the bigger building and had more projects running it became apparent we'd have to pay an admin worker.

Cheers, Dan

Please can someone explain on this FFAUQ how to use facebook to get Forest-related messages and see Forest events? I know this is possible, but I cannot manage it myself. I see the Forest page on facebook (http://www.facebook.com/pages/Forest-Ca ... 16?sk=info) but nothing appears to be happening there (and yes, I was logged in).

Also, I understand that I must promote my Forest event on facebook. How do I do that ?

I think that URL is for a totally bogus Forest Facebook group. The real deal is http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=2504741238, where you can sign up for a ticket to kick it.
