Hi!
If you are an AMAZING DJ... Band.. Electronic Music Guru...then I could really use your help getting some bouncy missions off the ground.. I'm thinking some sort of uplifting hip-hop/reggae/drum'n'bass thing. I sing, rap, make beats and I need your help to bring it together.

Strange how uplifting can be so depressing.

Sometimes, it seems like you really go out of your way to annoy people Duncan and that really bugs me..Anyway.. My current set is mostly from a pretty depressed place, yeah. If you are down and you write songs on your own, that's what they will sound like. I wasn't talking about my current set though. I was talking about a new direction where I can feed off other people's energies to create a more positively focused sound.

I think depressed songs can also be uplifting, it all depends on your point of view.

I'm sorry Danny, it wasn't intended to annoy particularly, and it wasn't even aimed specifically at you. It's just a statement of my distaste for such terms being applied to music, and my genuine reaction to it.

I probably shouldn't make such sparse remarks, but, well, it's more fun than writing essays on the subject, and if it connects with one or two then it has some value. But then I would be gentler if I balanced that against those that it connects with in a negative fashion.

I think recently after being exposed to music that has been composed rather than just song written I've developed a reaction against music being so personal, supporting an almost socialist (in a wide sense) approach to music. Not that I don't like all this music, but some of the greatest work seems to draw on something that goes beyond the individual, and it will always be a personal perpective, but looking (feeling ?) rather further.

To make uplifting music is a real art. It's easy enough to feel uplifted when you're part of it, like in a jam or watching a gig. You get sucked into the vibe and feel uplifted. But to make a recording that is really uplifting is more of a challenge.

( Duncan ) Apology accepted. I'm not sure what you mean about the difference between music that is composed and music that is song written, but I think I know what you're saying about the whole solo singer songwriter "aren't I so sensitive thing". It pisses me off too sometimes. I rarely listen to that kind of music these days. I think it has it's place, but I think it'd be totally cool to explore the more collectively made kind of music that I think you are talking about.. What are we talking about here?.. Are we talking about say, Dance music that doesn't have lyrics in it ( so it's not so much about one person's emotions )? Or music that's made by the sound of a band all coming together jamming?.. Give me some examples of the kind of thing that you mean.
What is your plan by the way?
