it's that time of year. These people are very very good, they did the Guantanamo Bay construction in Manchester too:

Artists needed for Manchester climate change project

Wythenshawe Forever! is a climate change awareness project taking place
in Wythenshawe, south Manchester between April and June 2007.
Wythenshawe Forever! will feature a series of projects leading up to a
‘Party Without Pollution’ event. The party will be a free outdoor
entertainment event run by local residents and community groups. It
will
be a unique event in that its development will be low carbon. This is
because the energy required to power it will be generated or saved by
the actions of local people and their projects, using suitable
small-scale, low-carbon, alternative-energy production and reduction
methods.
The event and workshops will be centred around a specially built new
temporary sculptural meeting space, called the PowerStation. It will be
fabricated from shipping containers and sited in a local green space.

5 artist’s commissions

Food:
Environmental artist/ creative horticulturist needed to work with local
schools to creatively explore food miles and to grow organic food on a
local allotment. Food grown will be cooked and eaten at the party
event.

Energy:
Artist with knowledge of renewable energy generation needed to work
with
waste items including bikes to create pedal powered energy generation
systems or similar with a community centre. The systems will be used to
power part of the party event.

Warmth:
Textile artist with knitting skills needed to work with local knitting
groups to source waste clothing/yarn and to create new, fashionable
items designed with insulation in mind. These items will be
modelled/exhibited at the party event.

Storytelling:
Writer/director or devisor/director needed to create a climate change
themed performance or interactive storytelling experience with a local
amateur theatre group. The resulting piece(s) will be performed at the
party event and broadcast on Wythenshawe fm community radio station.

Communication:
Artist needed to work with young people to make advertising posters for
the party event. Workshops will need to include making recycled paper,
poster design and screen-printing.

A fee including materials of £1500 is available for each commission.
Deadline for proposals 6th March. Interviews will take place on 20th
March.
