It might be easiest not to do this on the forest website, but to upload the stuff to some hosting service and then just link to it from our site. Especially if the music can be given some kind of free content license, e.g. creative commons. It's not really something I've done before so I dunno what sites exactly would be best. But surely they must exist. Maybe I'll have time to look around for something

Anyone?

Or perhaps there is an easy way just to put it on our own site.

Oh okay a found a list. So assuming we don't just want to use our site (I don't know about that), check here:

http://soundblog.spaces.live.com/blog/cns!D380EA83E108537F!2532.entry

The first on the list is http://www.archive.org/ "A non-profit digital library offering permanent free video hosting for anyone wishing to share files in the Public Domain or under Creative Commons." Maybe they do audio as well? But if not there's plenty more on that list. Google should find more still.

Ryan, there's another thread somewhere where we were talking about podcasting. I think it's the 'itunes for forest' thread that martinc started. The stuff on there about places to host podcasts is relevant to this.

Somebody just pointed out http://ourmedia.org/ to me, it seems to be a project of archive.org, but maybe it is closer to what we need.

Welcome to Ourmedia, a community of individuals dedicated to spreading grassroots creativity: videos, podcasts and other works of personal media.

Have a creative streak? This is a place where you can discuss home-brew media, store your stuff for safekeeping and show off your works to a global audience. (Bonus for video artists and podcasters: free bandwidth.)

Our partners in this effort are the prestigious Internet Archive, Outhink Media and Creative Commons. All share with us a vision that we are creators and producers of media, not just consumers.

What does it cost?

It's free. Actually, it's better than free — it will save you bandwidth and storage fees.

This looks like it might be what you need Ryan, check it out.
