printers action room

Postby martinmckenna » Wed Mar 19, 2008 11:54 am

a major hassle for all is printing , yesterday gaz was having problems with printing on oak, ive sorted it out , the setting where set for booklet mode .

i think one of the problems with the current set up is if setting are changed and not put back to the standard defaults then we get problems .is there is any way of getting the driver to resort to the defaults after every job .

the defaults being tray 2 (a4) gray scale .

i think it would be also helpful if we had a wiki for compiling info about such stuff .once the inof becomes good then we shall make the forest magic book of printing , which can sit next to each computer

any way heres a start

tray 1 a3

tray 2 a4

printing with evince (pdf viewer)

if you want to enlarge a4 to a3 ,then file /print set / and change the paper size

and when you press print select in page properties tray 1 (A3)

It doesn't seem likely that there's a way to prevent the printer settings from being changed/saved/ They are a user preference, the user is allowed to set them.

Think the way around this might be to give people who use the computers often their own accounts. It would be nice if you could create an account once and use it on all the computers, and it would contain the same files and settings whenever you logged in. Then we could just have a guest account for everyone else, and the files and settings of this account could be restored from a master copy every time it logs in. This requires the server though. In the meantime people who use them a lot can setup accounts for themselves on individual machines.

I've had it with you. If I had an image of a laser gun I would absolutely position it right here in my hand...
Ha! I have a real laser absolutely positioned in my hand!

yes this seems the way to go with the user accounts , and hopefully we will get a wiki too .

this also means we are wasting a lot of money printing things in color. we should be able to password protect color images. this is super important i think.
