I ended up doing a talk on Open Source at Big Blether last summer and all (coughthree) of my audience who were new to the topic seemed very interested.
I focused on the political reasons (free of control by big corporations like ms) and pragamatic ones (security, etc) and talked about running OS programs like open office and gimp on windows.
Coming up soon are Glasgow Reshuffle (31st jan) and DIY o rama weekend.

Is anyone up for trying to run a demo stall @ either of these? have some laptops demoing the stuff, live ubuntu cd's, cd's full on windows installers of popular programs, and just being round to talk to people about the benefits?
The hard part with both is advertising to get a different crowd so your not just preaching to the choir; see if local computer shops would take posters? this is were I fell down last time I tried to organise a series of talks on this topic
