One thing I brought up in the meeting was a hybrid of big splash and dynamic content.

I'll have to have a longer dig for something that really shows that, but here are some in the same general vein:

- http://www.operadeparis.fr/cns11/live/onp/ -- big image at the top, and down the right there is a list of what's on now.
- http://www.bfi.org.uk/
- http://www.nysenate.gov/

If we are feeling especially bold, and if the design people want to get on board, I reckon we could be even more dramatic and have the splash artwork take over the whole page, with the dynamic elements within it (think of making a mural around doorways and windows...)
It could be really awesome -- but would need a lot of work from lots of people to pull it off.

Cameo and Filmhouse are kind of similar to forest in that they have 'events' (in their cases, films).

If you went for Gareth's mockup or something like it (it's about mid-way down this page: viewtopic.php?f=80&t=7364) you could stick a dynamic element into that.

I was thinking about what Stevie said at the meeting, he said something about an events page that when you visit it the first thing you see is today's event. How about this: make posting events work very similarly to making posts in tumblr. Except you have to fill in a form with the date of the event also. The 'events page' would look like a blog showing all events dated today or in the future. They would be in chronological order, i.e. today's event (if there is one) would be at the top of the page, tomorrow's event below it, and so on. Only events for today and future days are shown. It is much like a blog except that items are selected for the front page in a different way and are ordered differently. The 'events archive' page would be where events go to when they move into the past and disappear from the 'events' page. That could be an archive page much like the tumblr archive.

Way ahead of you

I've already built blocks that list this week's events and this week's workshop, showing title, date, and location. We can do things like pull in a picture of the location too, a thumbnail of the event poster, and so on. This is ready to go right now. All we need to figure out is where to place them, what order to put the elements in, which extra pieces of data we want and so on.

Like I tried to say in the meeting, whipping up this sort of thing in Drupal is *fast*

Actually the new Mozilla site is a nice mix of big statement ( = splash), project links ( = sister sites), and dynamic stuff.
