Meeting on 16th January at 7pm, probably in Infoseed (basement). All welcome.

Something we can discuss tomorrow is an idea of Chakan's - environment workshop for children (and parents). I can imagine it might be good if we can think of enough stuff to occupy some children for an hour or so on a Saturday morning or something. But I don't know how to interest children in anything, so we need someone who can amuse, entertain, educate and control them.

Minutes

Present: Gaz, Blue, Shannon, Swithun

Allotment

Need real persons name. It could be mine, or it could be someone elses.

Sourcing

Organic isnt everything, but it is shorthand for lots of good things.
Get a list of everything we use, see what can we can switch to organic.
Shannon is already doing this. Stuff from Green City is fine. Milk is organic, but comes from big dairy. Organic is too expensive for cheese, but local is possible.
Organic beans on toast? They are a bit expensive - 5 times more so.
Put list of goods on BB and ask people to find alternative sources. (Shannon)
Ask Engine Shed about rules for growing vegetables and selling them.
Where do Susies Diner get their food from?

Garden

Can we plant flowers in other gardens out back? Get cash for bulbs.
Workshops - urban gardening, sneaky sneaky.
What can be done in garden? Blue will map the garden and work out what needs to be done. Ask for 70 quid for cheap bulbs. (Blue, Shannon) Laura and Andy did some good stuff at the weekend.

Compost

Blue described a better design of bin - lots of worms, comes off in sections. Shannon's bin was free, so we could still go for a different one.

Budget

What is our budget? 50 pounds per month would probably do. Shannon will ask at another meeting.

Recycling

Redesign the area. Swithun talk to building group.

Batteries

Swithun put up envelope on notice board. Can empty it into container downstairs and then take that to Ikea.

what would £50 per month be spent on? it seems an awful lot...

It wouldn't be spent every month. But it would enable us to spend a bit of money when we need to without having to wait until the next Forest working group meeting. There's not much autonomy in a working group if you can't spend a wee bit when you need to do it.

What are the other budgets right now?

i totally agree, however for something like the garden and enviroment, it may make more sense to have an annual budget, as something to work with, say figure out what the plan is for a year and budget it, this may turn out to be something like £200.. if there is a surprise expenditure later in the year this could be brought up with forest wg.

i think this may make more sense for this particular group.. as the gardening is an annual kind of thing so planning for a year makes much sense..

i am unsure of all of the wg budgets, maybe it is time to start figuring this out...

Good idea. I think maybe a 6-month budget might be better, just because it'll get hard to plan for a whole year... But yeah, there's nothing saying they need to be monthly, and in this case, less frequent would make sense. It needs some money over the year, but not necessarily every month.
