Forest Book needs help from Forest Records

Post by ravanwin » Sat Jun 23, 2007 9:06 pm

Guys,

we're putting out a golden hour MP3 CD to go along with the book. it will have stuff from Billy Liar, Dan Seizure, Black Diamond Express, Danny Mullins etc.

We need to burn about 500 of these suckers to send along to the printer & each in an individual plastic sleve. My idea was to buy white cds and clear plastic sleeves and give them a bit of gold spray paint... maybe this is a dumb idea?

Maybe burning 500 cds on the office computer is a bad idea ...

what are the suggestions / facts about getting the job done correctly somewhere?

i need both advice and hands-on help.

please

not yet...that is why it is fabled.

about selection. people don't need to have more than one track right? so you could fit a lot of artists onto one cd - 80 mins. about mastering. it's not a proper album is it so it's less important. maybe we should dummy a cd up to see how it would sound. it'll probably be okay.

will buy a 10 disk multi-burner today.

where do i get the cheapest and best cds / plastic sleeves?

any ideas on the best way to design the cd? gold paint splattered on them? or is there a better ideas?

also: in terms of everything.... it will be awesome if SUBMIT / Forest Records worked together to get a cd out with EVERY new issue of submit. A quaterly cd of all the best music and sounds being made in the forest or around the world by forest people. is that exciting?

STOP THE PRESS:

I just spoke to Caric Press (who is doing the golden hour book) they say they can burn the cd with artwork if we supply one master cd.

they are going to send me a price and i will post it here but, is it possible, that this is the better way rather than burning 500 cds by hand and trying to make them look cool, they can add a well-printed label onto the cd and burn 500 as part of the project.

it seems a waste of time and possibly money to burn 500 cds and post them to Dorset. What do we think? I imagine runs over 100 will always be better off done this was (but wait till I see the cost....)

So... fyi, purchase of burner on hold.

let me know if we should get one anyway and if i am missing anything...

much better option to get someone else to do the dirty work.

500 cds is very much a lot of work.

indeed.

we should still buy the fabled machine though.
