ARGH the e-mail

Post by alice » Wed Sep 12, 2007 7:07 pm

we need to not have a yahoo account.

I just tried to send a mail out about the next exhibition but yahoo won't let me insert any addresses. I'm going to Knock this evening so am totally hopeless.
Yahoo sucks.
If anyone feels like taking on the battle here is the text and i've sent it to everyone from a-d on our address list: (I had some of the words different sizes but it doesn't seem to be working on the bb)

Total Kunst Presents

Cardboard Cathedral
A collaboration between Lindsay Grime and Rachel Maclean

18th-28th September
Closing party 28th September

Two artists from different disciplines collaborate to create a cardboard
temple, at once gaudy and fleeting.

The project embraces ideas about gender, life, death and America's Next
Top
Model, which have come about through this collaboration, presenting an amalgam
of different aesthetics, which combine to create an ambiguous, shifting identity.

The viewer is initially presented with a wealth of imagery, alluding in graphic style
to a shop window or a fashion illustration, and in decadence and detail to the
excess of a Baroque Cathedral.

However the content of the work constantly displaces this indulgent aesthetic,
with its rendering in cardboard and obvious flat pack
installment into the space suggesting something fleeting, cheap and easily
disposable.

Both artists attend Edinburgh College of art, Lindsay Grime studying Illustration,
and Rachel Maclean studying Drawing and Painting.

yeah it's possible to have any address.
that one might exist already.
duncan is the man who can.

however the email account is pretty poor. squirrelmail or whatever.
not user friendly and quite small, so most people use it as a forwarder to yahoo or suchlike.

best to stick with the yahoo for a bit and work out why it's not working properly...
the more you think, the more you stink

i think it would be a good idea to find out why its not working , before any knee jerk actions , and i think squirrel mail aint too friendly too. but you can download mail to a email client ,but this may be more trouble than its worth .

For things like email list and the such dont really have to be from the yahoo account , at least if we can get the addresss from it , or if not then start again , if yahoo is anything like hotmail then you have to pay extra for the export of you address book . but if we can send an email with all the emails in it then we could savage something am sure . i think this maybe be the best thing to try first

This is the problem with using these kinds of email providers , they are certain functions you have to pay for , hotmail and yahoo . Am not sure about gmail

alice if you just send me the address book ill see what i can do , this will be a workaround untill we can come up with a better plan of action

It still worth setting up the forest email in the mean time . at least have it ready

try using yahoo beta, (if you aint already), my normal email is yahoo, and i find it work ok/good.

although i am rubbish at all email really...
Maybe it could work? But it will be a kaleidoscopic blend of mysterious shadows and rainbow hued-dreams seen through compassionate tears.

I think we could have a mailman mailing list , which is what i think alice was talking about , so people can join it . this would just be for anouncements , this would ideal if it was hosted on the forest web site , if not i could host it

hi

Ive set up mailman mailing list , and its only for events and its pretty well locked down , so hopefully no spam . We can ether use the one on my server or try and get it on the forest web site , which i think would be better . in the meantime we should play about with it ,

http://roytrumps.com/mailman/listinfo/t ... trumps.com

in the future we should get it linked to the total kunst web page , and also get the subscription page jazzed up a bit , it pretty generic [/url]

dont use ms front page. it really is shite. it produces over heavy HTML.
I suspect openoffice would be the same.

The problem is HTMl is not designed for that kind of WYSIWGT editing.

I think I can teach you some basic formatting by hand which should be enought to get us by ,,,, including images and headings.
lets talk sometime.

I think thunderbird is the way forward , it does mean a bit of double handling from the web site to the mailing list . we can get yahoo with thunderbird without paying , thunderbird has a plug in . webman that will let you do it . i have it working now . my experience with webmail on hotmail is not very good . it works for a while then it stops .hopefully this will not be that case with yahoo

if anyone is thinking of setting this up , then make sure you tick the box that leaves all the messages on the server in the account setting before you download messages
