help with events postings on the web

Post by ravanwin » Tue Sep 18, 2007 6:48 pm

a good man named jim wilkie has offered to post up our events online for us. can we please

1) give him access to the events page.... (who can do that?)

and

2) come up with a system that works in order to get him the events in a timely fashion to update the web.

his pm is JIM. if someone can PM him with access to the web, please.

There is a post somewhere with the login to do the events...not sure where right now.

I can't think of a system for him doing this unless he comes in, gets the events book, and posts it while he's at the Forest. It's really straightforward. If someone is going to type all the events up to send them to him, they might as well be putting them on the web themselves.

The info is here at the top of the website section.
http://www.theforest.org.uk/bb/viewtopic.php?t=1802
HOW TO UPDATE THE EVENTS ONLINE

1. go to the forest homepage: http://theforest.org.uk/index.php
2. go to top left and drop down to LOGIN box under HOME
3. username: password: - ask for it from a moderator (sometimes it changes)
4. click on 'My Content' in the left side buttons
5. click on either 'upComing Events' for the frontpage or 'Event Horizon: Forest Happenings' for the full events listing page
6. click on the little pen and paper icon to EDIT
7. click the SAVE icon
8. you're done .. Logout
The username and password must remain restricted cos basically you get to edit the front page.

People who have access to this section will be able to find the username and password here.

Otherwise send or tell the details to willing people like Jim.

I will send him the details....
the more you think, the more you stink

How about posting a weekly events list in addition to the monthly list? Take a photo of the blackboard and put the photo on the website.

good idea. still, it's essential to have text because text is searchable.....

or googleable.

And sometimes the events board is ugly or with text that won't show up so well in photographs...

Hi,

If I could be emailed a photo of the blackboard, its no problem for me to type it onto the page.

Having discussed this with Ryan, I would probably be best if I came in and just typed up the events from the diary. However, would someone be good enough to give me step by step instructions or, see me on Tuesday evening at the documentary showing.

Cheers

Jim

Jim,
this week's events list can be found here

if you wish to switch descriptive details with your own.
Go ahead.
I'm typing out the full events for October,
I'll pass them along when done.
