<we need a poster for this --- maybe A3, please. It's in polish and english - do we want more linguas? The Doc. has polish and english>

The forest is a volunteer-run arts and events space.

If you enjoy hanging out here – that's great, however, some behaviour will not be tolerated and we reserve the right to ask people to leave our premises.

no drunks. if you are drinking, pay your corkage at the counter.
no violent behaviour. Do not verbally or physically abuse our customers or staff.
the internet is provided for research and communication purposes: no racist or pornographic sites should be viewed at any time.
be polite to our staff. Say good morning, say please and thank you. They work for free.
No sleeping. The Forest is an arts and events space not a shelter.
No graffiti. Any one caught damaging our premises will be immediately barred.
No canned meat in the Forest. Please don't bring your own food or beverages.

The Forest will only give one warning to those caught breaking the above rules.
The Forest will then permanently barr any offender. Your photograph will be kept for identification. The Forest reserves the right to barr anyone for any reason without need for explanation or discussion.

If you feel you have been barred unfairly, please contact us via: info@theforest.org.uk or 3, Bristo Place, EH1 1EY.

Here's one. The guy you don't know is Zbigniew Cybulski, the Polish James Dean.

* Only one warning if you break these rules -- okay
* Permanently bar any offender -- I thought all forest barrings were temporary? Or at least, they could be revoked if the person wrote us a letter or whatever
* The forest reserves the right to bar anyone for any reason without need for explanation or discussion -- hnnmmgmggfn.... really? Can we just say that if you break the above rules our volunteers are well within their rights to bar you, without entering into a lengthy discussion about it, something like that?

I think we're going to use the text from the William Burroughs poster and have it in more than Polish and English.

please bear in mind that not everyone can read well, and not everyone can read lengthy, wordy documents.

can troublemakers always read well?
will they be able to read the burroughs? it is very wordy.

as simple a list as possible might be good, like you were getting at...

it seems we need to clarify the policy anyway.

Yes, I think this poster is probably better than the Burroughs one because it is simple and gets to the point.

I also thought this a bit questionable, but it is standard at many places like pubs and clubs. It is not necessarily wrong, but maybe not very much in the spirit of a place that is supposed to be open, accessible, non-exclusive etc.

I don't think it's hard. Just a simple explanation is best. Seriously don't underestimate the difficulties some people have in reading this stuff. The Burroughs is too much. Also it should be in as many languages as possible. 10 at least. Not just polish and english. That sends the wrong message. Anyway here's a revision.

Quote:

Welcome to the Forest.

We want everyone to enjoy the space and it is important that the Forest is a safe place for our volunteers and customers. That means some behaviour cannot be tolerated.

Please help us keep these rules...

* No drunks. If you are drinking, pay your corkage at the counter.
* No violent behaviour. That means no verbal or physical abuse or threats.
* Absolutely no racist, sexist or creepy behaviour. Respect the people around you.
* The internet is provided free: but no racist or p orn sites at any time.
* Be polite to our staff. Say good morning, say please and thank you. They work for free and are happy to serve friendly folk.
* No sleeping. The Forest is not a shelter or hostel.
* No graffiti. Anyone damaging our premises will be immediately barred.
* Don't bring your own food or drink. We have our own menu.

The Forest will only give one warning to those caught breaking the above rules.

Anyone who continues to break these rules will be barred.
They will be asked to leave and must not come back.
Photographs may be kept for identification.

The Forest reserves the right to bar anyone without the need for further explanation or long discussion.

If barred please leave immediately and do not come back or loiter outside the Forest. We will call the police if necessary.

If you think you cannot keep these rules or don't agree with these rules then the Forest is not the place for you. Please go somewhere else.

Anyone who is barred and wishes to discuss it further should write an email to info@theforest.org.uk or write a letter to 3 Bristo Place, EH1 1EY.

Have fun. Play nice. Forest is nice when you are.

Feel free to revise further...

I like it. Pomme and I will get French and German translations done. Those sausage eaters are nothing but bad news.

I like it. It's still nice to have a copy of Burroughs up, just for the people who can read it, it's funny.

There's no harm in using different texts. If anyone can point out the differences, then you can give them a free coffee as you boot them out the door.

It's not like there's a shortage of Poles who can translate. Email it to Kasia and I'm sure she would oblige. Her address is... somewhere.

Or for a comedy version, send it to Szymon!

KMs and NMs get volunteers to translate things for us in quiet times. It'd be cool to get lots of languages for lots of different posters, over time. Lets get Nana to do them in Korean and Japanese.

THIS IS THE TRANSLATION OF THE BURROUGHS ONE.
ON IT SWITH?

r

Translation:
In the bubble:
