Coffee grounds and pipes

Post by swithun » Mon Feb 18, 2008 6:51 pm

I've heard some people in the kitchen say that coffee grounds are good for cleaning out the pipes. I was wondering whether to do this at home with my Turkish coffee grounds, but thought I would look it up to make sure it was good for the pipes.

It turns out that this is bad for the pipes. It will make them clog quicker, rather than scour the grime off. So not a good idea, mkay.

whoever told you that coffee grinds were "good for the pipes" ought to be barred from working in the kitchen immediately.

You can buy soda crystals for putting down drains to help clear them. They are very cheap. I think Semi-Chem has them.

Someone I haven't seen for a while. If they are reading this, they will know better next time, and won't need to be named and shamed. If I see them I'll have a quiet word.

I don't know if they ever did round to putting their plan into action. And there isn't anything wrong with the pipes, as far as I know. At least not since that unfortunate incident in Infoseed.

On a slightly related topic: what the hell happened to the good blind sleeve for the espresso machine? It has not been getting cleaned on my watch because I can't find it. This is bad. If it hasn't returned asap I'm going to get a new one - but from where?
