Check it out, fucking cool, no? Maybe we should be going down there and getting a table. It would rock. CIAs for all. I think there's a possibility WTCDTD might be going too

Deadline is March 18th, anyone interested?

yeah im going and have already book my travel ticket.
this is a good zine fair that was set up after the portland zine symposium.
i am thinking as it is southern england centric. why doesnt the forest set up and host a zine fair that would be a yearly event for scotland.

as far as i can see, there are not many regular zine events in the uk. and most times zines are only a tag-along to some underground/alternative happening.
i would love an edinburgh zine symposium to happen.

Amazing. And the hall upstairs would be perfect. I have some a couple non-forest friends that would be really interested in helping...

In the meantime, do we want a table down south? If we got on it quickly, we could advertise our upcoming zine fair whilst we're down there. Setting a date and an initial advertising spurt shouldn't be too difficult.

Let's get together and talk? How about next Wednesday evening??

YAY! Okay, should I wait until after the meeting or just go ahead and book? Stalls cost £5-£10 only, and the form seems pretty simple.

ps: Our own zinefair would be magnificent! YES...

Book.

Also, Aaron mentioned at the pub that there is already a Glasgow zine fair organised or something. Drunken shannon forgot details. Someone might want to get in touch about that before Wednesday.

7.30pm meet in cafe (not sure if action room is free)?

Ok, I've sent off the form. WTCDTD have too, and we've requested we can be next to each other if possible.

They've said if we don't get a stall and they do we can put things on their table, and vice versa. Hopefully we will both get stalls though, and spend the day together with prittstick and inky fingers.

By the way dai, they wanted a mobile contact number for the day so I gave them yours because I knew it and thought you'd probably be there. They have my email etc, so they'll probably contact me, but if they do call be aware.

Ok, there doesn't seem much point to me in meeting yet until we hear back from the fair people. I've sent it off this week but not heard back, and there are only 30 stalls being given out so it's not a definite. It's a possibility also that if we don't get a stall, WTCDTD will and we can share theres. I'm in conatct with them about that.

We also should talk to Aaron first since he says there's already one fair that happens in Glasgow, so I'm looking for contact details for that.

So yes, I will post when I know if we have a stall or not, then we schedule a meeting when we have some information and things we can actually discuss?

The closing date was march 18th and they got back to WTCD just after that, saying they had a stall and "We'll let you know where your stall will be in the hall when everyone has confirmed and we've worked out the plans for the space. It should be fine though for you to have a table next to The Forest Cafe, and hopefully with wall space. I'll let you know as soon as I can!"

I waited a couple of days for them to get in touch with us, but they didn't. So I emailed them saying what up, about a week and a half ago. They still haven't got back. I will try mailing again.

If not, I will talk to WTCD about sharing theirs, this should be cool.

This being official Forest External Task Force mission business,
we are looking to cover our travel costs, back and forth.
We number three.
We will be hard travelling on the Megabus.
By nature of these things the faster we get a yay the cheaper the tickets.

Confirmation is go go go!

Hey everyone,

Apologies for the mass email, but just some quick info about stalls at

the Symposium because I've had a few questions about it!

TIMES
The symposium is starting at 12pm and going till 6pm. The Rag Factory
will be open from 10.30 for people to start setting tables up. If you
don't show by 1pm (unless you've given me a call to say you'll be
late) we'll allow other stalls to spread out. Everything needs to be
cleared up by 7pm. We'll be taking payments for your stall over the
course of the day.

TABLE PLANS
We're still working on exactly where all the tables are going to be
situated, but should have this done today so will let you know
tomorrow the table plans.

VOLUNTEERS
We could still use some additional people to help out on the day of
the Symposium - handing out fliers, programs, collecting donations,
making sure the venue doesn't get too crowded etc. etc. If you're
interested please let me know, we'd only be taking an hour of your
time and it'd really help the Symposium run more smoothly!

FLIERS
Oh, we also have some snazzy fliers for this year's symposium. If you
want some copies I'm happy to send some out to you (though if you
could contribute to postage that'd be ace!)

Hope everyone's well and see you all in a couple of weeks.

cheers
edd

Also, mira emailed them to see if we were sharing because it looks like we are on the map. But we're not, and the people next to them are not showing up so there is room for urban sprawl.

WTCD are going all out on banners and cool, we should too, fake plastic flowers and felt pen treats, get on it. I may bring priscilla. Dai dai dolls heads?

I have nothing on all week.
Though, today is a write-off I'm superpooped from the last three days.
My brain is broken.
I'll be chuffed if I manage to write up the events.
Can you list jobs?
What we need printed out.
What else are we taking etc.
I'll set to it, tomorrow.

There’s only a week left till this year’s Symposium; time to announce the confirmed workshops, talks and walks at this year’s event plus times and locations at the venue. We’ll be handing out a programme on the day, which will have these details and a map of where they are in the building.
Workshops at LZS ‘08

A list of some of the workshops and events happening at this year’s Symposium are listed below. A schedule will be online by April 17th with room details etc.
Workshops

Screenprinting (large workshop room: 1pm-2pm)
An introduction to screenprinting, with a brief talk on various dos and don’ts, as well as talks about equipment etc. This will be followed by a hands on session where people can screenprint a London Zine Symposium t-shirt (you need to bring your own t-shirt!). Screenprinting is often seen as something quite daunting, and the workshop aims to introduce to people how they could use screenprinting for their own projects.

A zine making primer (large workshop room: 5pm-6pm)
The basics of making your own zine. It’ll be a hands on workshop looking at different ways to create zines. Looking at different folds, pagination and reproduction techniques. It’ll incorporate both the traditional cut n paste methods and using a computer.

Online radio (large workshop room: 2pm-3pm)
Dissident Island Radio, an online radio station based out of RampART social centre will be running a workshop about online radio; what it is, why its useful, and how people can create their own radio programs.
Talks

Zine readings (upstairs stage room: 3pm-4pm)
An hour of zine readings from Phil Chokeword (of Facial Disobedience zine) and two more to be confirmed!

Food and fanzines (large workshop room: 4pm-5pm)
A talk, followed by discussion, with Isy (from Morgenmuffel zine and the Anarchist Teapot) and Hannah (from South Coast Vegan cooking zine) about food.
Walks

Radical History Walk (outside main building: 4pm)
A walk around the local area of Spitalfields, Bricklane and Whitechapel looking at where riots, marches, raves, squats and other exciting events occured.

Scavenger hunt (outside main building: 5pm)
Taking a twist on last year’s scavenger hunt, this year will be about discovering specific information about the area as much as its about finding specific items.
Films

Comic Book Confidential (small film room: 12.30pm-2pm)
A look at the comic book world in the late 80s and early 90s with a number of interesting discussions about comic zines.

DIE or DIY (small film room: 4pm-5.30pm)
An inspiring film about how to survive on a DIY existence

What details do we have on the Forest zine fair?
Is it just a case of setting a date and making things happen in the interim?

Yes, we should set a date before the zine fair, so we can advertise it right there. How about sometime in July? I wonder if there is a gap between shows in the gallery so we could use that space as well? Would be good for zine making workshops and whatnot.

i think july would be good cos it leaves time to get something decent sorted. I reckon it should be it saturday and sunday. We should also get the hall booked.

the gallery is pretty much booked out till august at the moment but there might be a day free.

People i can think to contact in relation to this would be:

analogue
wordpower
deadhead
sandy Meets
S.H.E.I.L.D

CIA nights obv.

i also know a few folk who would be glad of the oppertunity to hawk their wares.

So it was fun, we sold some things, traded some things and gave out hundreds of CIA nights.

some sales:

toastycats 1: 13
toastycats 2: 15
drunken moose recipes: 5
deadheading: 2
Golden Hour Book: 1
I think I: 1
I hate myself: 1
hoping for surrender: 1

we traded many deadheadings, cookbooks and golden hour tour diaries, I will take in the wares this week.
