Film scanning?

Post by Martin » Tue Apr 01, 2008 1:44 pm

Does anybody know anyone with a film scanner?

I will soon be receiving a small number of irreplacable negatives from the 1960s which need to be safely transported into the digital future. I have an ancient Minolta Scan Dual but it's crappy.

I might trust a shop if I could watch them doing it, but I don't want to post them off or leave them with anyone.

the epson scanner we have is also a negative scanner (i think). there used to be a bit that came with it, to hold the negative but its lost. presuemably you just scan them and there is a setting in the software to tell it how to treate the colours?
Maybe it could work? But it will be a kaleidoscopic blend of mysterious shadows and rainbow hued-dreams seen through compassionate tears.

Yeah, any flatbed can be used but the proper film scanners have higher resolution... still, not seen the negatives yet so don't know if the quality will warrant the extra resolution anyway.
