September stuff

Post by michaelbowdidge » Fri Jun 27, 2008 12:47 pm

September as it currently stands:

Tues 2nd - Sun 14 th - Cecily Tattersall (TBC)

Also Rocca Gutteridge is definitely interested in doing something in the hall for one evening and would like to come and have a look at it. Where can I find out when it is free for her to see it?

I spoke to Rocca and she's going to come and have a look at the hall on weds at 11. I shall be there then to show her around, anyone else want to come and chat to her about what she wants to do?

Not heard anything from Cecily regarding those dates in early september so I suggest that we think about programming something else for those two weeks and perhaps the following two weeks... any suggestions for wild, weird and wacky wonderfulness? Or maybe just some art?

there are lots of submissions still to be looked at in the e mail, we could go through them next meeting and see if wackiness or art within for september then.
also it's heather's closing party on friday if anyone can make it, i'm not around.

After all that we've just had an email from Cecily (finally!) saying that she does want to do the show after all, dates would be 2nd - 14th sept i think - shall we go with that?

Cecily wants to know if she can have an opening party on either the 2nd or 3rd of september instead of a closing party - what do we think about this? Any suggestions?

well, Cecily sent in this quote from Philip Guston with/as her proposal, I see no reason why we can't use it as a 'teaser'....

"There is something ridiculous and miserly in the myth we inherit from abstract art. That painting is autonomous, pure and for itself, therefore we habitually analyze its ingredients and define its limits. But painting is 'impure'. It is the adjustment of 'impurities' which forces its continuity. We are image-makers and image-ridden. There are no wiggly or straight lines..." -Philip Guston

Well, they all make sense in relation to the calender, if that's what you mean. The only correction is you have got a stray 'october' at the beginning of november, but other than it all looks fine!

so met with mirja today, sounds exciting. she wants to give free tea to people in order for them to help out with transforming her exhibition..have discussed this with alex and she will get tea from cafe in pots and then pay using her budget! it won;t be much only for couple of hours of her closing party
date of closing party changed to the 11th of october....could you change this on web please stephen. she will take work down on sunday morning in preparation foe the gallery action day. her work will include painting on walls....i'm assuming that we are painting walls too and this ok?
so yes
that's all folks
oh and emi has got someone else to help out on friday in case i need to work. we thought we could have people put suggestions in for the next logos, whatever form that may take....nice bb logos btw. we're meeting friday morning to prepare some photocopies of stuff to take and litter table with.....

so not wanting to start a new thread lets talk about october!!

the days for gallery refurb are the sunday and the monday right (12/13). mirja is taking down her show on the sunday morning and will get walls back to white for us.
i am at work on sunday but can come along to help after 5, the same for monday. depending how it is going i can put the adam and eve stuff up either monday evening or tuesday evening. could some one give me a hand? the projector is booked, just need to find some ceiling hanging things.
also have another favour to ask, i am not here to take down the show on the sunday 19th. just a matter of putting projector away and taking the hangers from ceiling and putting them somewhere safe, prob best to take home. any volunteers?
cheers
see you at mirja's closing party on saturday.....

not sure if i can be there mon/tues evening- what needs to be done- is the projector going to be positioned on the shelf? Also- adequate weird connectors are needed to connect the projector to the device that is being projected- is it a dvd player being used? any idea what kind of hook sare needed for the roof?

Simone- is the show still aclled c'eci n'est pas Adam et Eve? or does it have adifferent name? should i use an alternative image for the website or another one?

yeh it nees a dvd too but the difficult part is the cables that connect the DVD to the projector that's difficult. I can bring a DVD player the gallery can borrow on Sunday.

what time are we starting the floor btw.

here's the new blurb for the call for submissions. any thoughts on this? if this is ok i'll make it into a poster and post it here and on art review...

Total Kunst are currently accepting submissions in any medium, including performance and/or time-based works to consider for their ongoing programme of exhibitions in a centrally located, volunteer run Edinburgh gallery.

We welcome well-thought out submissions from artists at any stage of their career who are based locally, regionally, nationally or internationally. However, you should bear in mind that although we may be able to cover exhibition costs (up to a total of £50), accommodation, invigilation (if required) and transport of work and/or yourself are YOUR responsibility.

We are particularly interested in receiving proposals which either make creative use of these limitations or engage with the specific qualities of the gallery and the Forest Café in which the gallery is housed. For further information please see our submission guidelines:

http://www.theforest.org.uk/submissions/submissions/

Please send your submissions to:

totalkunstsubmissions@yahoo.co.uk

The deadline is ongoing, though we do meet to consider submissions on the last Thursday of every month. (Please do NOT send submissions to our Art Review page or by personal message as we won't read them!)

I think 3 week slots for now it's a good idea because I dont think noone will be willing to have a show int he gallery in november on such a short notice. louise, the artist I contacted didnt even reply yet.
also, jack webb, the performance artist, wants to do his show on a sunday and I think he's alright with us setting a date for his as soon as possible because he wants to promote his event.

so who's going to fill in the slots?
