Well, the thing is some time ago I found some art work at the free shop and kept it. I assumed the owner had lost it. I've been trying to look for her and finally got in touch. But she says that she did it on purpose because her work is lying around just gathering dust.... I couldn't believe it, such nice things, not to be exhibited or sold... She says she finds the Forest intimidating and very serious in arts terms... not for her. She is about to bring more of her work to the free shop.

Could I meet with you and show you what I have before I take it to Spain? It would be tragic if her talent goes to waste...

Thank you :)

Perhaps Biz`Art could sell her pictures, maybe she should speak to the shop folk.

sarah tingle has confirmed for 2-15th february
the idea of extending shows either side of the gap is good idea, easier than rushing a show.
still would be good to get vacuum cleaner chap in next year

about the lady who put her work in free shop, selling it in shop is good idea, shame she sees visual arts too serious... has she submitted her work before to the gallery?

I know. That is what I said to her: visual arts intimidating?! What a pity. That, I find sad indeed. Her work is very much what many people would call 'nice', which is not in vogue apparently in the arts world. She would fit perfectly among the 'Illustration' artists of the ECA final year degree show, if you know what I mean...

And no, from what I gather she hasn't tried.

I am trying to convince her to come forward... But also I'll bring myself 3 of her pictures to the shop, anyway.

Thanks

Louise wants the 1st-12th December slot but wants us to call her.

so are we extending the present show to the 23rd . this does not necessary mean we have to make the next show longer . but we need to make some decisions on this .

No answer from my guy yet- i have emailed brian to see if he can extend his show and come to take it down on or before the 29th of nov.

so we're looking to fill the 1st-12th slot which is a strange one- not sure whether we'll be able to get any one in for it.

Any ideas for ad-hoc shows?

maybe a theme show simply entitled "ad Hoc"

or open it to people we know in forest who would like to put up something, like the person susanna knows, polish peter, james, studio peeps... and visual arts, a free for all. whatever comes in the gallery on the 1st dec gets displayed? chaos, like the lasers, = fun and unexpected results.

i think the guy who has the show now , chooses what happens next and so on ...............

not sure about a free for all .

anyway are we extending the present show or not . if not then on monday we have a free gallery with nothing in it .

i will phone somebody about filling the space from the 1st tomorrow and simon green may be able to do something too in that slot . but if we are extending the present show and the next slot starts early then i need to know this so i negosate a solution. otherwise . my hands are tied .

i do find this hole in the program an opportunity for something different , and maybe the beginning of new way of doing things . a rupture in same ole same old .

so maybe your are right simone and mike in what you suggest . if we have vawg show . then i would want to make some new work . a map ! it owuld be a good oppertunity to do some fine art for a change . it could be we take the next 2 weeks .

i know pockets would like to do a night in the gallery , i think this would be fun .

it seems after that we will be booked solid so could be a last chance for a while to have some fun .

"hi stephen

that would be great, man. cheers! i take it you haven't heard from the next artist on the calender?

the 29th would be best for me, as i am pretty busy on weekdays at the moment."

so brian's in till the 29th.

Jack Webb is now on 30/11/2008 which means 20-21 dec is now free as well.

like the sound of doing something different 1-12 dec but i would prefer to get a definite idea for rather than straight up free for all.

we don't have much time to decide this....

although we have just got this in the mail
could be an idea for the slot?

Hello,

I am a 4th year illustration student at the Edinburgh College of Art. Before I send you a proposal with examples of my work, I was just wondering if you have a free exhibition slot before January? For my disseration I am studying the importance of self-initiated projects as a contemporary illustrator, exploring drawing and looking at innovative and collaborative techniques. I have planned an exhibition to show this work and now just looking for an appropriate space!

Hope to hear from you soon!

Kind Regards,
Genevieve Ryan

what do you think?

we'll just have to work out another slot
we need a way of spreading the word about these building days better, i don;t remember there being a post about it, but i often miss things on the bb...a shame to let him down such late notice

hey

there's some guys doing an event in the cafe on the 27th and they also want to display some photos in the gallery that day (industrial photography). I personally really like them. they submitted the photos but i guess their email didnt send through thats why we didnt see them at our last meeting.
is it ok if they display their photos for one day, even though it overlaps with the minidv fest?

On a (slightly) more serious note, are we going to do the next minividfest in the same format as last time (i.e. small monitor) or are we going to project them?
