SOUND TEAM

Post by nix » Mon Dec 01, 2008 6:31 pm

Hello!

now is born the "Sound Team" ...

a group of individuals within the forest community who are capable and willing to do live sound for events and train others in how to use the sound equipment.

are you in?

do you want to be part of this team?

... thanks....

N.

Woop woop!

Nix already knows I'm happy to help with the sound stuff and I'm happy to show anyone the basics of the system whenever I'm in the Forest, just come and poke me.

I'm also hoping to get a picture-guide done soon, so that bands can at least set themselves up and get reasonable sound if no-one is around to engineer for them.

fraid i can't make thursday evening, got things on every evening (or am out of edinburgh) for the next fortnight excluding tuesday and thursday of next week, but don't wait for me on anything, i'm sure the right decisions'll be made.

the boss machine certainly seems like fun, will try and RTFM and poke it some more at a point soon when i have the time.

Got your message Nix. I've got a band practice on Thursday in the Caves, 5 till 7pm so could meet up after that, cant meet earlier as will be at work. Me and Shane were kicking around a few ideas yesterday to do with recording etc so would be cool to discuss them with you.

Oh and i 've got a couple of good books from my Uni days about audio engineering etc.
One which is called Audio in Media is absolutely brilliant. it goes in to everything from recording techniques (e.g. microphone placement, editing etc) to things like psychoacoustics relating to compression (e.g how mp3 reduce file size without our brain noticing that loads of info and frequencies are missing.) which is, I believe, essential for any audio engineer (on the editing and mastering side of things) to know....plus its fascinating.

Would be willing to lend to people in the Sound Team only as I love that book and would want it back but let me know if anyone fancies a read.

SOUND!!!!

It was a Nix meeting, so there weren't really any minutes per-se.

Gist of things:

Sound area to be taken apart once we find the electric screwdriver.
Sound area to be resized to fit the shiney new sound desk
Cover (including lock) to be built for sound area
Broken deck to be taken to repair place so that loaned deck can be given back
Cables put in to make hooking up laptop to sound (for films etc) is easier

Cheers,
M

Had a guy in today asking about helping out with sound. I have his mobile/email on a piece of paper in my wallet and will pass it on to Nix when I get the chance.
