opportunity for funding

Post by stephengoodall » Sun Mar 15, 2009 9:48 am

This looks like a good opportunity that TK might consider applying for:

Elephant Trust for Fine Arts - posted 12.3.2009
deadline: Tuesday 14 April & Friday 19 June 2009

The Elephant Trust was created in 1975 by Roland Penrose and Lee Miller to develop and improve the knowledge, understanding and appreciation of the fine arts in the UK. The Trust was set up to help artists present their work and undertake and complete projects when frustrated by lack of funds. It is committed to helping artists and institutions that depart from the routine and signal new, distinct and imaginative sets of possibilities.

Grants have usually been limited to £2,000 but larger grants may be considered. Funding priority is given to artists and to small organisations and galleries. For details on how to apply go to www.elephanttrust.org.uk or e-mail: ruth@elephanttrust.org.uk or tel: 020 7922 1160.

I think we should go for the 14th april deadline and have some time to work on it, if i can pass it past the PHDs to take a look- how should we pitch it though- apply for funding for artist's budget and paint for example?

pass it past hwat?

we can make a case based on past record ( busy exhibition schedule) +
the plans to offer longer time for artist and be able to support them more in terms of materials and equipment so that they can take more challenging work in the gallery ?

Sorry, I meant "pass it round" as in to show it to you guys as it is likely you guys may have a better idea of what a successful proposal might look like.

here is the submission guidlines:

Application is by post only, and must include the following:

* Brief synopsis of the project
300 words maximum on one A4 sheet.

* Budget on one A4 sheet stating:
a. Total cost of the project
b. Amount requested
c. Details of other funding applications made.
d. Name and address of recipient of grant
if awarded.

* Visual material
a) Small selection of images on paper (not exceeding 20 x30cm). These can be photos or still images from video work, but must be of good quality and clearly labelled, with date, medium, dimensions and orientation. 6-8 maximum. Material submitted on DVD will only be accepted from artists working with film/video.
b) Small selection of other visual material eg. catalogues, press cuttings, etc which may help the Trustees when considering the application

* Brief CV where relevant

* Stamped addressed envelope
for the return of any material
Whilst the Elephant Trust will take every care, it can accept no responsibility for its safe return.

So in terms of the application I was thinking that we could pitch it TotalKunst as an ongoing initiative and apply for funding for a year-

that might include--

artist budgets (12x£100) £1200
A0 Project (£2 x5x 12 months) £120
Suitcase Series (postage £100) £100
Gallery renovation- (Paint £20x12) £240
(Floor Varnish ??) ??
(Lighting ??) ??

That would probably start taking us to the £2000 mark.

Thoughts? What would we submit as visual material?

not going to be able to make it to the forest this weekend i'm afraid.

Can we do the action day next week?

I can work on the funding app in the meantime and bring what i have to the meeting on Thursday.
