SeaSick Steve- Blues dude rocking on a 3 stringed electric guitar. go see him live, he kicks ass.
MC5- just because they kick out the jams, and we all like a good jam kicking.
King Creasote- beautiful voice, great songwriting. love it.
Agree with Chris the Kanye is pretty cool, not as cool as Mos Def but almost.

He does kick ass, and I think he's coming to Edinburgh soon. I know his son. How cool am I.Gandhi wrote:SeaSick Steve- Blues dude rocking on a 3 stringed electric guitar. go see him live, he kicks ass.
Safe As Milk and Trout Mask Replica by Captain Beefheart.
Skip James. Just... amazing.
The Microphones/Mount Eerie. You really need to listen to The Glow pt. 2 by The Microphones before you die.

Re: This week I've been mostly listening to...
I thinkyou might be uncool, as you think your cool because you know the son who might be uncool of a cool man. The cool rules are confusing, and because I find them confusing, it makes me uncool, but finding myself uncool makes me cool, possibly.
Captain Beefhart is amazing. Safe as Milk is one of my all time favourite albums. Trout Mask Replica freaks me out..in a good way, but sometimes in a bad way...I have to be in the right mood for it.

Seasick Steve is playing Glasgow and is officially uncool because he now lives in Norwich which cancels on his hobo credentials.
I will post up my new finds by way of a mixtape that I will post up details and make available to anyone who is interested.
In the meantime, my latest and ace-est find
http://speechification.com/
an extraordinary, heavily archived resource of downloadable radio documentaries usually aired out on the BBC but also occasionals from the likes of Resonance FM etc.
Anyway it's a massive treat
so far I've listened to
The Art Of The Mixtape by Dave Quantick
A Musical Map To Sheffield by Jarvis Cocker
Glitch by Paul Morely
Fungi: The Fifth Kingdom
and a rather bizarre thing by Malcolm McLaren about being locked in a computer game.
All of them, most pleasurable besides Malcy but I will forgive him anything.
It also has a sister site
http://watchification.com/
but they seem to struggle with archiving with a lot of the links dead
Still
stuff it up the hole in your culture

I have to be in the right mood for everything by the Don. Also, Trout Mask Replica was produced by Frank Zappa. That makes Trout Mask Replica the definition of coolness.

The Lofty Heights. Homeboi just walked up on stage after the last open mic night and suddenly jaws started dropping. Seriously. It was disgusting. Got a CD, but it's not nearly as good as the live performance.

Lots of stuff by UNKLE as I've only just really discovered them. I was aware of them and loved their Rabbit in the Headlights video but just didn't listen to them. They are great.
Also lots of:
Amon Tobin
Aphex Twin
Squarepusher
KLF-Chill Out
DJ Food
and I'm loving the new stuff by M83.
And- In Rainbows by Radiohead. I got this a while ago, listened to it, loved it, forgot about it. Started listening to it again a couple of months ago and now I can play the whole album every couple of days and still not get bored of it and still admire it. It's one of those albums that each time you listen to it you discover something new. I believe this is their best album ever!

The Floaters - Float On
A grand block of unhurried, breezed in, sleazy soul.
Each member introduces themselves, states their star sign and goes on to tell you what they want in a lady.
"Libra and my name is Charles
Now I like a woman that's quiet
A woman who carries herself like Miss Universe
A woman who would take me in her arms
And she would say, Charles, yeah"
Also exploring the history and back catalogue of ZE Records
www.zerecords.com
via the Mutant Disco Compilations
Cowboys & Gangsters merits a monster groove with a suitably preposterous lyric.
hear also
Wham! - The Wham! Rap
call and response to the enforced idle, a rewind, thoughts on Thatcher 30 years after her coming into power.
"Do you want to work? - NO
Are you gonna have fun? - YEAH
Do you want to be a jerk? - NO
Are you gonna stay young? - YEAH"
Right the fuck on, George.

Also really getting into white noise meditation- using specific frequencies to achieve deeper relaxation. A guy, George Baker, a US composer has developed lots of these. And I can't do without Unison Sinewave mediation, by illume in essence www.unison-therapy.com, but I will have to as I have played it so many times it is now getting stuck - but even that sounds great:Alpha frequencies, theta & delta - I am swept away...

I've varied my diet of classic rock, with a quirky Swiss duo called Stereo Total. I visited a friend last week, and he turned me on to them. Their recent album, Paris Berlin, is mainly about sex, but I think most of their work is. The song, Revolution Baby, has some great lines, like 'Masturbation is counter-revolutionary, heterosexuality is the opium of the masses, put your Marxism where your mouth is'.

Following some links from BoingBoing, I found an album of awesome 70s funk from Benin, West Africa. The group, Orchestre Poly-Rythmo de Cotonou, dish up haunting wahwahs, demented keyboards, frantic percussion and beautiful singing. Time to brush up on my Yoruba.

Me too! Love his work. Very sad I never managed to catch the Gorky's while they were still touring.

got this on some seriously heavy rotation - must have heard it a good 50 times in the last week.
Ryan Franscesconi is still high up on my list too.
