Aggregation of other sites onto theforest.org.uk

Post by milk » Thu Oct 15, 2009 4:16 am

i've got the initial setup for this added.

http://theforest.org.uk/aggregator

note to the forpub.com editors - you want to make the finishing page for paypal payments and the countdown pages as a 'page', same as the book info, not a 'news' item. also, on an aesthetic tip, i'd be careful not to add extraneous linebreaks at the end of a post as this makes it look weird in the feed.

i've added the TK blog feed, but that hasn't been updated in over a year so nothing comes up.

i'll look at integrating the FP news on the front page soon.

i've sorted the ical location tag issue just now. it was a result of the effects of the bug i noted in the other thread.

on the aggregation front , ive added a <img> tag to the allowed tag settings . we now have images . the formating is not great . but its better .

if there are any problems then we can change it back .

would be possible to have 2 post sections , to have a forest collective aggregation section . this would be from the web sites of people involved with the forest .

the feed output shouldn't look that bad. looking at the source, the alignment isn't kept because it's set using the CSS class .alignright from style.css rather than inline CSS.

this is fixable by installing the Align RSS Images plugin.

two sections is certainly doable.

there is probably a way to fix this on the aggregator page itself with CSS in the theme, but it's going to go into a Panel anyhow which we can use to set the width.

i cant find how to change the panel , or edit them . I thought these kind of things would be listed with the pages . but only pages seem to be visable .

you (as a full admin) will be able to see the Panels config at Site Building -> Panels in the admin menu at the top.

i've been doing some research to find the easiest way of merging aggregated feeds into the 'front page news'. i could get it done at the moment, but it'd be an ugly hack of a method. gimme a while longer to find a more elegant solution.. :)
