Nachos rule

Post by swithun » Thu Jan 21, 2010 10:20 pm

I had the best nachos in a long time last night at the Golden Hour. I think there were 3 layers, each lovingly grilled, but not burned. A structural engineer couldn't have positioned the chips better than Donald, for maximum salsa potential and optimal melted cheese absorption. I initially thought there wasn't enough sour cream, but with moisture being supplied by the salsa and soothing grease from the cheese to complement the jalapeños, there was no need for more sour cream. About two thirds of the way through, I thought I might not be able to finish them. But I did.

Forest nachos are hard to beat. I think the freshness of the salsa is the key factor. Don't get nachos from Snax*. They are a false economy, as the serving is minuscule, and the salsa comes out of a squeezy bottle. Filmhouse nachos are good, with a hot bean salsa, but I would want more for the price. The same can't be said for Auld House nachos. For a little more than the Filmhouse charges, you get a washing up bowl sized portion, that 3 people would find satisfying. If you have those for breakfast, you can forget about lunch and dinner - always the sign of a good breakfast.

* Snax does lots of dishes that are good value too.

I sampled the nachos today, and they were indeed very fine. In fact they were so good that my friend Andy ate most of them, despite having had his lunch already. Now he owes me nachos, the bastard.

Gotta say, though I don't eat nachos anymore, I always admired the nachos at the forest. Extending an eye out to follow a plate as it was carried past, or, as one was held up for the claiming.

We should totally have Nachos Night for Forest X, with 10 different types of nachos!
I love the bomb.

There can only be five, on the 9th. It took all of my nachocraft to devise four new ones plus the original recipe. Even if a thousand luchadors worked on the problem for a thousand years, they wouldn't come up with any more recipes.

Apart from maybe:

The Islington: Blue cheese and rocket drizzled with a raspberry reduction
Nacho Negro: Black corn chips, black olive tapenade and black bean sauce
The White Van: baked beans and brown sauce
The Raasclaat: Red, yellow and green Scotch bonnet peppers on a fruit salsa
The Guinea: Tomato mozzarella and fresh basil

Stick to five. It is down hill after that.

I think you are on to something...
Edinburgh's first and only nacho-only menu.

Any food you like as long as it's nacho.

Let's crank it up to eleven-different types of nachos and leave those awesometown losers in our wake...

11 is a nice round number. Here is the missing piece of the jigsaw:

The Austerity Package

Are the ConDem's austerity measures turning your stomach? Then this dish will really stick in your throat. Unadulterated tortilla chips, scraped from the bottom of the bag. Who would vote for that? Who cares? You'll get what your given.

Swithun, I think we need another massive nacho night to reward ourselves for this fundraising craziness.

There isn't a day that goes past when I don't think of nachos and hard rock. Some of the dishes on last year's menu didn't sell so well (i.e. at all). So here are some replacements:

The Douchebag A collar poppin' soul patch of Jaegermeister spiked salsa

The Fartknocker Marking the return of Beavis and Butthead to the small screen

Still working on the descriptions and recipes. I think the Fartknocker will have plenty of dill weed, and might involve cutting some cheese. But at least no dolphins will be flogged in the making of these nachos. But what do douchebags like to eat?

A dry run before August's Hard Rock Monday final outrage would be good. I could do with some help. When are you thinking of doing this?

Is there any chance of a charlie sheen memorial nacho plate?

Let's do it! Let's have a trial run before August! 'The Douche Bag' on the menu this time.
