Web wireframe discussion

Post by milk » Fri Mar 26, 2010 12:21 pm

a meeting so we can come to a final decision on the page elements, features and information architecture of the revamped website.

these are the bits that will be themed in some manner.

what is a wireframe?

or if that's tl;dr; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RjIDHTyY1zM

a very quick and rough sketch. i'll work on better/clearer ones in the next couple of days, thought i'd post this to show for now.

the sketch of the splash page is wrong in that i missed out the the main menu links, with which the dynamic info boxes would probably be placed best in another location. based on the basement stairs mural, the bubbles would be the links to the sister sites. this was also from before the argument towards including links to the facility pages in the menu (or elsewhere) was made. the third box is meant to be a calendar with tabs at the top for category which was something i just made up at the time. i made more scribblings about actual IA ontology on other pages, but to post them here will only confuse.

i always liked that mural, so something like this ultra rough mock-up:

Maybe it could work? But it will be a kaleidoscopic blend of mysterious shadows and rainbow hued-dreams seen through compassionate tears.

"ultra rough mock-up"

the buttons dont do anything, they are merely illustrative. something that jakob does not understand, not having much in the way of illustration, pictures or diagrams on his site.

I'm never having sex with any of you. Or, for that matter, Jakob.

issues;

splash - doesn't have expanded facilities links (Cave, Darkroom, Screen-printing, Tool+Metal Workshop, Action Room.. that is it, yes? actually, studio balconies also, but do these need a prominent link? i don't think so)

facilities - the way i've drawn it there is ugly. if each facility is linked to from the splash page anywhere, is there worth in having a Facilities page?

workshops - there are very roughly 8-10 workshops running at any one time at The Forest. i thought having boxes to list the details, and then each workshop would have it's own page with further information and updates. would these boxes would be best listed in chronological upcoming order, or should sunday always be first, monday second, etc?

events - a general events page for those who like calendars. would default to entertainment type events as workshops and WGs would be elsewhere.

events2 - a mock-up box style listing just for kicks

ontology - how do we represent/frame Forest happenings in the easiest to understand way? this is meta thinking but i thought i'd pop it up anyway. (the scanner cut off the S from 'Spaces' on th left margin)

menu items; i was humming and hawing about these. i would like simple yet representative.

'Organisation' on the Workshops image above would contain info on WGs, when the next meets are, BB links, etc.

but then again, this could be merged with the Volunteer/Get Involved page?

the splash will change every couple of months or so, but i thought i'd knock up a quick example to work with so folk got the gist. it doesn't have to be the one that goes live first, but it was an easy idea which has a good connection with Forest anyway so can be used at some point.
