The anarcha-feminist group "free-school"

Post by thumoso » Sat Jul 24, 2010 6:12 pm

Hey guys!
What you think about that??
cheers
Lukas+Cornelia

<<<<The anarcha-feminist group is planning a weekend "free-school" for
September and we are looking for a venue. It's really hard to find an
affordable and suitable location in Edinburgh, and having used the
Forest for events in the past (with different groups) I was wondering if
we could do it again. I wasn't sure who to approach at the Forest about
this but if I should be doing it through some other channel would you
mind fowarding this to the relevant person for me?

Basically the request is to book the Forest on the 26th & 27th of
September. We would like to book the Hall, Action room and one other
space (crafty room or something like that?) so that we can hold
workshops in them. We would need them from 10:00am - 6:00pm on these
days. I have briefly spoken to Scoutt about this and they seemed to
think it might be possible. If so, could you also let me know what the
cost might be? We are currently putting in a funding application to
support this project so if you let us know soon then we can factor this in.

There is more info on the project here:

Thanks very much!

Sophie.

awesome!
Life is beautiful. The bad thing is that people confuse beautiful with easy.

free-school booking mix-up - URGENT!

Post by scoutwinter » Sun Sep 05, 2010 11:12 pm

uh oh!

looks like there has been some confusion with this booking. Would it be possible for the Freeschool to use the cave and the screenprinting room (I'll help make it possible) and the front room of the cafe, because the filmy people are using the hall on the saturday? They can make a donation or something, they have funding. They were sure that they had the booking, and are pretty confused by this.

well. the film people had already paid etc so their booking was sound
apparently the collective spoke to Nix about trying to rearrange it, Nix told them "if they didn't hear from him then assume they couldn't use the hall" but they thought it was the other way around. oops.

I think it would be ace if we can help this happen.
Chris/Stevie - any problems with using the screenprinting room?
Nix - any probs with using the cave? I can book it myself, they can put some money in towards it if necessary

sophie's email:
Hello,

That would be awesome Scoutt if you would be able to look into it! I have
been in conversation with nix about this for a couple of months now and
have been getting mixed messages about it.

The last time we spoke (about 2 weeks ago) he said that he would ask the
film people if they would be up for doing their thing on the 23rd/24th
because we had asked for the hall first, though he had forgotten about it
when he spoke to them. He said he thought it pretty likely that he would
be able to get the hall for us for the 25th and said he would be in touch
with me soon to confirm that, but have since heard nothing from him. I've
sent texts and emails Forest ways this week to try to find out for
definite what the score is, but alas, no reply.

I was thinking of going in myself in person on wednesday before the
meeting to speak to him, but if you get the chance to find out that would
be super cool :)

probably fine by me.. is it just for meetings?

it is full of screen print stuff, so not much room for meetings etc. apart from for a small number of people...

Maybe it could work? But it will be a kaleidoscopic blend of mysterious shadows and rainbow hued-dreams seen through compassionate tears.

it'd be just for small group workshop/discussion type thing.
we will bring in rug/cushions to make it more cosy for that. one day only, 25th.

merch/books for sale

Post by scoutwinter » Thu Sep 09, 2010 5:14 pm

ok
would it be possible for the freeschool to have a small table of feminist books for sale in the cafe?
they're from AK press.
there might also be some zines and little merch things.

also, is there an urn around that could be used by the freeschool during the weekend 25/26th? I know we were using one on the upstairs bar, is it functional/where is it now?

ok
its their last meeting for the freeschool tonight
we're going to make the screenprinting room nice to sit in on friday
we'll make the cave nice on saturday
i noticed that the cave is only closed until 5pm, could this be extended? I could call Hamish & check with him
also I assume it's ok to have the book stall in the cafe cos nobody has raised any problems with that
