Proposal: action room

Post by gaia » Thu Sep 09, 2010 5:39 pm

We intend to remove the ugly carpet from the action room to expose the wooden floor and paint it with some heavy duty floor paint. The budget would be around 40-50£ I guess.
Y/N?

Probably on the 17-19th September. Volunteers welcome!

has it already been sanded? If not you would need to do that first, which would up your budget/timescale a bit...

Support removal of ugly/unclean carpet.

If it is a decent wooden floor it might be a shame to paint it, no? A natural, varnished wooden floor is a joyous thing!

Can we hold on till we can afford to hire a sander again? K x

The floor underneath is not varnished so it doesn't really need sanding if we just want to cover it with some thick floor paint.
I do agree that a natural wooden floor is a much nicer and more durable solution and I'd be totally up for that. We were considering waiting until we can hire the sander again to sand the café and the front room as well, but we would have to close for at least 4 days and it would cost a lot - maybe 300/400 quids?

Em, nice idea.
sounds great to make the action a good place to work and be productive.
Is there a long term vision/use/proposal of action room function we need to consider here as well?
I'm all up for rooms being redone to make them attractive places to work.

1. I hate floor paint on floorboards = it's so ugly...
2. the action room is cold as hell in winter, and as gross as that carpet is, maybe it's warmer with it? alternatively we could get some rugs for the floor, but then again, since we're so short of cash at the moment maybe it's better to wait?

Hey floor paint can be ok when it's nice. but as far as I know you have to sand before application. At least this is what I've done.

@Stephen
There is no concrete plan, but the general idea is that the room has turned into a storage shed when it should really be a creativity/productivity friendly environment (assuming we find a way to keep it reasonably tidy) with lots of spacious surfaces and well-organized technologically advanced devices, err, stationery and stuff.

@Scoutt
I don't know anything about insulation or the forest heating system, but I guess you have a point. Also, now that I think about it, there are no radiators in the room, right? Anyway, I'm sure we could find some incredibly cheap (or free) second-hand rugs with our amazing scavenging skills.

@Dan
I'll go to the paint shop and check on that!

there is NO heating in the building at the moment. any forest planning should take that into consideration...

I understand that people want to do something positive in the space and the action room is in great condition . I dont really think the carpet is that big of an issue . I never notice it when am busy in there and without it and it will be a lot colder .

yeah. lets just leave the carpet in there.
Maybe it could work? But it will be a kaleidoscopic blend of mysterious shadows and rainbow hued-dreams seen through compassionate tears.

er.. this is a joke no?
once you lift the carpet it will never go back.

what about the carpet cleaning machine, or the Carpet Shampoo and a scrubbing brush?
