please help with icky jobs

Post by scoutwinter » Thu Jan 06, 2011 1:30 pm

yo
icky jobbies.
the darkroom and workshop are flooded again and the people came to fix the problem with the drains last night so it'll drain away but then will need mopping up. bring wellies and a nosepeg. this is pretty urgent, and nobody who's volunteering in the kitchen should do it as it would be UNHYGENIC.

the other thing is the front door urgently needs repaired. we couldn't get a matching hinge (they don't make 'em that size any more) so if somebody with a drill and some screws could come & fix the new smaller hinge onto the door that'd be sweet cos I am worried about the glass breaking. Cannae find anything in the workshop, which is flooded (see above).

ASAP sweetpeas! I will give you a hug, make you coffee and tell you how great you are.

Did someone do these today? If not, I can probably come tomorrow afternoon (depends if my own elusive plumber turns up and manages to fix the boiler in the morning). I have a drill but am very amateur with it - will bring it if it's still needed, but I need supervision. x

What is the story with the hinge? Do we still have it? I think I got that hinge in the hardware shop on Bread Street. Maybe we can get another one from the same place.

Did the screws just pull out of the frame, or did the hinge itself break?

Katy took care of the flooded basement disaster.
She also fixed the front door hinge with Joey, it now closes with no problems! Thanks guys :)

BUTTTTTTT
the front door hinge is pretty shitty.
it's not heavyduty enough, and also it's a slightly different thickness so it doesn't fit well in that spot. if anyone can do a better job, please do it. the door now springs open slightly, which is much better than slamming, but not optimal.
may need to order the right hinge off the internet or something

Yes, I think it will break fairly soon... the screws are not up to much, one of them is broken already and I think more will follow because they're being pulled a little each time the door closes. Definitely a temporary fix.
