oh hey.
anyone interested in having an Alternative Process class?

I would really really love to teach it, it's all DIY cameras and chemistry.

It could go 1 of 2 ways:

1) Run an 8 week class, similar to the Intro to Black and white class. Start with simple techniques, build upon them, while introducing new processes each class. Hopefully end with a class exhibition.

2) Run 1 full day workshops for specific processes for which ever ones people show interest in?

if there is interest it would be really helpful if people could say which topics they'd want to learn, and then I could plan around that. I'm just going to list a range of processes possible. Would probably need to have a sign up in advance plus prepaid lab fee- for supplies the cost would go down per person if more people sign up.

pinhole (pretty much free) skill level: easy

Van Dyke Brown (slightly more than cyano- but often can be purchased together, and can be combined nicely with the cyanotype process.

Albumen (main cost is for silver nitrate) skill level: easy after C & VD
this processes would begin in the first week, but we would not print with it until 4 weeks later as the paper is sized with a solution we would need to prepare (this is not a vegan friendly process- okay for ovo veggies) Looks similar to VanDyke but with greater tonality and yields a sharper image.

I'd be really interested doing these i think all,
I've done some of them (liquid light, polaroid transfers) but a looong time ago.

I am not really familiar with any of the processes, so I am interested in all of them. Maybe a course is better than separate workshops, as people would be motivated to attend classes on all different techniques and not just come to one or two.

Looking forward to it. Too bad i missed hte black and white one

I'm going to suggest that people still consider if they're interested in the more expensive ones.
This won't really be an issue if enough people sign up....i think there should be a min. of 4 people to run it, and keep the cost low. I think we could possibly make the cap 10 people as we won't be utilizing the enlargers.

I already have a syllabus for alt process as an 8 week course

I do want to stress 2 points

~Albumen process is not Vegan Friendly, so i can omit it from the course, if this will include more people...

~liquid chemistry (we will likely use AG plus) the fumes from the developer and fixers for this process are particularly gross. If you have breathing issues of any kind, i would STRONGLY urge you to BUY a RESPIRATOR...

but, we can deal with this further once more people get involved.
I guess I'd be looking to start this course no later than the first week of March.
It would be really great if we got enough people to sign up no later than the first week of Feb. So i could collect the lab fee and order/ gather the supplies. Also inform people of how much it would cost each person, then, we can alter the course, if it's too much money...

Also if people want to sign up after that, it could result in others getting a small % of their lab fee refunded or we could vote on another process to learn and use the surplus funds to buy the materials. But we can cross that bridge when we come to it.

Sweet! Also- Cyanotype and Van Dykes work really nicely on fabric... which is something to bear in mind. You can make cool clothing patters, or blankets, or well, all kinds of things with these processes.... and maybe when there's more light, towards the end of the course, and a bit warmer we can make a class photogram on some fabric. they're really fun and easy to do. And we could maybe display them in Forest somewhere for a time... (ah i'm getting excited)

well, i'm leaving in april. but I've got NO darkroom experience whatsoever. and I'm very slow at taking photographs. but I have a Holga.

not a problem.
alt process stuff is pretty different from darkroom.
and you can always be around for half the class!

But, if you go take some pictures with your holga we can start there if you have a free half day.
the enlarger for medium format is not great. but i can teach you enough with it.

Perhaps we could have a meeting me and any interested parties, so i can go over the potential costs, supplies needed in addition, and hazards?

I'm free basically every evening and could be prompted to venture out during daylight house for this
