NEW COUCH!-check it out!

Post by arizoniandreamer » Wed Jan 05, 2011 5:55 pm

Hi People,

As you probably saw yourselves the sofas in the café are getting a bit doggy...The general opinion is that the one at the window has to go and the 2 seater old-style leather needs to be repaired urgently. (The one next to door is too comfy to throw it away...so he survived this time :)).
I've found a 3 seater sofa on freecycle, think it would be perfect for us. I wrote to the guy who owns it and he said OK and would be glad to give it to us!
I attached a picture of it, tell me what do you think and if you say yes we can arrange a day when to collect it. (I assume we will need a van for this...)

xx Kata

Of course we keep the leather one!
Ok, the guy just wrote me that we should pick it up before the 11th (next Tuesday) He lives on 9 Marchmont Street, Flat 1. EH9 1EL. Is there anybody who would be up to do this with me? Preferably a strong man..more preferably a strong man with a VAN. :)
Thnx,
Kata

New couch is great!

Back in the olden days I always asked people with dogs to keep them off the couches. Can we make that a policy if it isn't already? Dogs on couches make the couches even dirtier than a lot of our customers. It's also bad for people with animal dandruff allergies (ie: moi).

Hairy Chairs / Couches

What about having one chair for the hairy / furry ones? I suggest this as I have a chair to offer. The standard 'S' shape Scandanivan job from IKEA. Fire safety compliance label is still attached.

Any good? PM if yes.

I'm happy that you like it! :)
I love the idea of having a special chair for furry creatures...

Glad there's another furry fan. There's a pet portrait (b&w) project hanging around in the brain too. Possibly as part of any fundraiser - great thing about chairs is portability and see it outside with a donation hat; a tripod (possibly); camera (definitely); and other possibles.. If pet preferred to be indoors then, that could be done too.

If there is insufficient enthusiasm for a dedicated furry chair, does the cafe need another one anyway?

I like the dedicated hairy chair idea - a nice compromise if we ask to keep dogs off the sofas.

Does this all mean the sofa now in the lobby is surplus to requirements? If so I'd love to give it a new home.

take it away! it may need a bit of internal fixing-up as the supports are breaking below the seats.

I'm not keen on a furry chair. I think it confuses things and I think Scoutt is right when she says that sometimes there is barely enough space for humans. We are already one of the only places people can bring dogs and I don't see why dogs need to be on a chair while they are visiting the cafe or what is to be gained by it.

I agree with Shannon and Scout. I think one sofa for pets only would be confusing ("You can't sit there, but you can sit there") and that we should have a uniform "no pets on sofas" policy.

It's a safety issue. A dog lying quietly on the floor will eventually get trodden on. An awkwardly broken leg can mean a dog gets killed by injection - you can't have a dog in a wheelchair for the rest of its life.
People wanting seats can ask dog owners to move their dogs aside. If that's a problem - it shouldn't be - then put a sign up on the wall that tells dog owners to be considerate.

i like the idea that dogs can sit on sofas but my friend and his family sat on sofas the other day and they ended up itchy when they got home.
could be the humans of course causing itchiness.
sit at your own risk i say on the sofas!

Yes, you could say dogs on the sofa are a safety issue for some human animals.

(Having just talked about humane pest control in another thread...) I have some really horrible, non-humane, highly toxic, scarily effective insect spray left over from an issue with some fleas in my classroom last year (not a metaphor for my pupils), which I hope I never have to use again. If the soft furnishings might be biting the customers shall I bring it in?

as much as i dislike that stuff it may be more quickly effective than us getting new sofas. the chairs in the red room are also known to cause 'discomfort'.
we could spray them on the coming action monday so cafe does not smell for customers?

Flea bites are not the sort of thing you can mistake. They cause a red swelling, last for a minimum of 3 days and itch significantly more than a midge or mosquito bite. The Forest probably ought to have a policy of asking dog owners which product they use to control fleas and when it was last administered.
