This is becoming a big problem for us, if someone smart can get the printer talking to computers again that would be awesome!

Don't know if more and more printers will help, but... I have also just been given a printer, which means I have a HP Deskjet 840C going spare if it would be useful. It's not amazing quality, but perfectly fine for text. It kind-of works with Macs - not officially supported on the latest OS but I managed to get it working after a bit of searching on the web. It came to me from someone who used it with PC's so I presume it would still do that too. Any good?

Maybe we could get one of these small ones installed in the office for internal use?

If the mac has internet and can print, then the printer is connected to the rest of the network fine.

Hmm, ok. I'll check it out, might be a routing issue.

Hey there people who print, and maintain the printers,

What am I doing with this spare deskjet printer I have? Is it useful to Forest? If not, it's going on Freegle real soon...

please please please can we set up a small, simple, friendly (if there is such a thing), working printer in the office for internal use and paperwork emergencies, that we get more and more of lately? people seem to want to donate some...

Ooops, sorry I completely forgot to do this. I've now tripped over it so often I've stopped noticing it. Will try to remember this weekend.

In case you haven't yet discovered - I brought in the printer, it's in the office in a bag, which can also be adopted by The Forest if useful

As far as I know, the two ae not supposed to be directly connected, printing goes via lan, so you should make sure that both the mac and the printer are connected to it (are the RJ45 cables plugged in?)

Yo

The printer now lives in the office. Ive had to move the switch from upstairs to the office to get it to work. Maybe someone can fix this issue.

Erm? Should just be able to plug it straight into the router beneath the desk without going through the switch. If it still doesn't work, the IP of the printer may need changing.

I plugged it straight into the router originally, give its ping on its old address no joy. then tried to find it using the printer install on ubuntu, no joy. So I just just set up the old system with the switch in office.

it may be a dodgy cable or something.

I think the IP addresses have changed, but I can't remember. I'll stick in and have a look at it tomorrow or Friday.
