Sandwiches - good and bad

Have you had a particularly good sandwich at the Forest (or anywhere else)? What was it? Have you had a very bad sandwich at the Forest? Let us know and perhaps we won't make it again. We would like to know your favourite fillings, mainly so that we can shift more sandwiches and not have to bin the bagels and waste the wraps.

the classic mozarella, tomato and fresh basil (or pesto) has always gone down well.

a personal favourite of mine is grated carrot, peanut butter and cheese, unfortunately this tastes best toasted though.

Good:

- roasted smoked tofu, drizzled with sesame oil to cook
- chopped/pitted olives
- lettuce
- tomato
- balsamic dressing

- feta
- chopped/pitted olives
- lettuce
- tomato
- balsamic dressing

- falafel
- salad
- hummus/baba ganoush

- refried beans
- cheddar
- salad
- sour cream/guacamole


Bad:

- calling our roast vegetables 'fried vegetables'

- soggy salad & hummus

Good-OH

non-vegan:

mozzarellaORjarlsberg-avocado-tomato (with a pinch of salt and black pepper please)
goats cheese-basil(or pesto)-cashew nut
brie-redcurrentjelly-walnut (a forgotten classic!)

vegan:

falafel-salad-hummus (best in a wrap, not a bagel)
lentil pate-roast veg-salad (incredibly cheap and it's easy to make up a load and put it in the fridge - cook onion, garlic, stock, red lentils and curry powder till paste-y, add salt/pepper if necessary, and a splash of lemon juice)
guacamole-roastveg-jalepenos-salad
tofu-roastveg-hummus

BAD-oh

thick slices of carrot
using the "nice salads" as a base (bulgar wheat bagel doesn't SOUND good, plus it's extra work because then you have to make a new nice salad)
hummus&salad (put a bit of thought in)
untoasted bagels
over-fiddly and time-consuming and expensive things (baba ganoush tastes gooooood but costs about 10* the price of hummus and takes far longer to make. i say eat it at palmyras)
too many sundried tomatoes (makes it greasy and costs a bomb)

I think you've just got to make sure there's *enough* filling, it's something different and there's some nice lubrication to help it slide nicely down yer throat. Maybe we should get more sauces/jams/conserves. We could sell a good old scottish favourite of jam pieces for 20p!

And, there's no harm in asking if you're not sure it's gonna blow people's minds.

How about spam and oxtongue sandwiching a slice of toxic white bread?

Maybe not.

I would like to start getting vegan mayo (good for sandwiches as well as pasta salads). Any objections? Any other spreads of reasonable price that people might like to see?

I say go vegan mayo, as long as it doesn't cost £5 a spoonful.

What about british jam? It's nice to balance out savourosity of some stuff. Good for your teeth too.

What about mystery meat sandwich paste. Yum!

At retail the mayo costs about £1.50/jar. Obviously cheaper wholesale...

I'll look for a good jelly/jam.
