Hey guys,
As you may or may not know, me and Saska are doing this Balkan thing at forest next weekend (Sat 10/02). Food is a big part of it. So I was thinking this:
How would you guys feel about balkanising the menu for the day. I would be happy to KM to make things easier. Here's some ideas:
On a plate, with or without salad:
Potato and Spinach bourek(layered pie)
Moussaka-aubergine goodness
Gemista: Tomatoes and Peppers stuffed with rice
In the big pots:
Trahana-either creamy or tomao based soup
Greek Lentil soup
With Pitta:
Tzatziki -yogurt dip
Melitsanosalata-aubergine dip
Maybe a greek salad, with feta on the side for the vegans.
Desert:
Baklava and Kadaif : syrupy sweet goodness
We could prepare the food at home and then just heat it up a bit before serving if required. It's all vegetarian and I could even stretch some of them into the vegan territories if necessary.
We could still have all the normal forest food but in addition have a big balkan specials board.
Now, the money:
The prices could be the same as the equivalent forest menu stuff i.e.:
A piece of bourek/moussaka/gemista with two salads=buritto
Trahana/Lentil soup=well, soup, obviously
Tzatziki or Melitzanosalata with pitta=hummus and pitta
salad=salad
sweet=sweet (though we might just end up giving those away for free with a dried fig and a shot of raki)
We would pay for the ingredients out of the till and get receipts
So yeah, what do you guys think?
Balkan Kitchen
i love the whole idea. either make alex an offer for his KM shift or just volunteer and prep the food. but, a new menu would be exciting!
