Videos on Website

Post by dan » Thu Jul 03, 2008 9:11 pm

Hey wouldn't it be cool to embed some of the many youtube videos onto our website? Would this be hard? Or maybe on the new one that Milk is doing?
Here's a couple I found:

i didnt know those existed, nice to see the street party properly, wish i had better posture though..xx
Maybe it could work? But it will be a kaleidoscopic blend of mysterious shadows and rainbow hued-dreams seen through compassionate tears.

I think videos should be streamed from live events. Just a simple camera and microphone set up by the kitchen pointing at the stage going into a computer and streaming through Helix (Realplayer) software or something like that.

I think that would be really realy great. it will get people interested in coming to the place and will allow us more contact with the people who love the place but have moved on to other places.
I think it would be also great promotion for musicans and artists and poets etc. May be something to consider for the new venue though.

If you host the videos on youtube then youtube will brand them for you. You could use another video hosting service, maybe there is one that is better than youtube. Or we could host the videos ourselves, and embed a free video player ourselves, such as flowplayer: http://flowplayer.org/ It is easily done, but how to integrate it with the Joomla system we currently use for the website, or the Drupal system milk is using for his new site, I don't know. You might have to look into video player plugins for these systems instead. But it's certainly possible. Not sure what hosting streaming video might do to our bandwidth.

there's a couple of options for the new site

there's an addon that allows you to embed youtube, etc, media on the site.

there's another addon that lets users upload videos directly to the site and includes flash stuff for people to view said videos on site.

i'm going to add the former for now and set up a 'Video' page on the new site.

as for joomla, yes, possible, but not worth it in terms of effort given the new site is pretty much done and just requiring content.

also, can someone move this thread to the "Website" forum where it should be?
