zapatista coffee!
zapatista coffee!
so we can buy organic fairtrade community coffee live and direct from communities in chiapas mexico! we can get it for approx £6.20 per kg....we buy it in 50kg whoppers. this is one whole pound cheaper than what we currently pay on our organic fairtrade coffee (£7.10 per kg)
this is great and if we can possibly support these communities in the poorest area in mexico we definately should. definately. the zapaistas are almost undeniably amazing.
i think when we order some we should alsobuy some 250kg packets of ground coffee to sell in the cafe. it really is some of the most delicious coffee that i have ever had......serious. i reckon the more folks who buy and are exposed to the coffee/the zapatistas the better.
peace.

here is the place we could buy from: http://www.cafe-libertad.de/

is this including postage? any chance we could get it cheaper? how reliable are they in terms of delivery? how long with 50kg of cofffee go? how do we store it all? I'm sure gc will knock a couple quid off the price if we tell them we are changing suppliers.... Alex. Make it a mention!

yeah it includes postage.
they just wrote to me saying
"The price is correct if you give us your european tax-ID. If you don´t have this we have to add you 7 % german VAT.
Cheers, pingo"
they must be cool if they have names like this.
anyone got any ideas what our european tax-ID is?
i think even if gc dropped the price to that of the zapatista coffee, we should still choose them.have emailed them abut delivery time. we can fit more stuff on the top back of the far shelf in the dry cupboard. in the walk in fridge, in the "freezer" in the understairs place, my house, etc.
hurrah

yeah the zapatistas are sweet.....truely.....no we won't rip you off..look at the price sheet attachment on my post above......we could order bags of250g or strong italian espresso ground coffee to sell in bags to folk seeing as its fucking sweet coffee and for something really good. we can buy bags of this for 2.25 euros....forest mark up is usually a third so maybe we would sell them for about 3 euros or 3.50 euros (£2.25-£2.50?).....this is just a guess......we can't get the espresso type coffee in bigger bags. only the standard coffee in 500g bags.

I think all this sounds very good, go for it!
I think we should get some bags to sell in the cafe. To my recollection when we sold small bags they sold like vegan hotcakes! (on that note, new cakes are AMAZING!!!)
Bill, I know a man that knows some woman that knows someone who could protect your dog for you.
Big love, Alex*

Bohnenflaschen!
As Swithun suggested to me last night:If anyone sees any balaclavas in a charity shop or something please buy some so that we can have a balaclava day to promote our new zapatista coffee. Also automatic weapons. Toy ones. Which we will not use unless we really, really have to.
I've had it with you. If I had an image of a laser gun I would absolutely position it right here in my hand...
Ha! I have a real laser absolutely positioned in my hand!

Yes a film will be good.
Seriously, does anyone know where I could pick up a load of balaclavas and other zapatista outfit stuff? I am just dumb enough to not know where to conveniently get it for cheap. Poundsavers maybe, or Edinburgh Bargain Store. I will look.
We could also make a new revolutionary menu: Zapatista coffee, Sandinista sandwiches, Bolivarian beans on toast, Fascist Earl Grey (it's always been the tea of the fascists), Marxist Mozarella... Or at least a poster. And put it on the sign outside. I think the arrival of Zapatista coffee should be on the events board too, but that's just me.
Do we still have that ragdoll man around? If I could get some stuff he could be made into a zapatista.
There is much hilarity to be made from these Zapatistas and their Subcommandante Marcos, while also promoting the forest and the zapatistas.
(It's NOT PHOTOSHOPPED! Honest! Our friend Jon-from-ACE used The GIMP)
Just change that starbucks logo to a forest logo... Subcommandante Marcos eats a MUG FULL of forest cafe zapatista coffee beans every morning, and he has CONTINUALLY OUTWITTED THE MEXICAN GOVERNMENT. BE that smart, drink coffee, etc.

ok they say it takes within a week to get it to england.i will email them now with the order see how we pay etc... i think we celebrate. i will work.we will not buy cheap balaclavas from slave made/china shops. but we will wear balaclavas..........and i think we shoudl talk to edinburgh chiapas folks.....
Ok I'll try to get down to an army surplus store, maybe at the weekend. That'll be soon enough right? We don't have to do zapa day on the exact day the stuff arrives, especially cos we don't know exactly when that is. Should we pick a day?

Balaclavas
I work near the Leith Army Store and can get the balaclavas if you want, how many do you need? Alternatively there is another army store in Newington, opposite the old Odeon cinema.
Yes, we should pick a day and make a proper event of it. We should ask for a budget from the events people. There should be Rage Against the Machine on the stereo, and balaclavas in the kitchen. We should put on a couple of Zapatista documentaries, and invite the Chiapis solidarity crew along for a stall (with full warning that there will be a good dose of hilarity).
why take the piss? why buy balaclavas from army surplus store (unless the idea meant as intentional irony i suppose)? if you want zapatista souveniers/dressy up clothes to sell you could speak to Edinburgh Chiapas Group, they can surely get you some good ones (the dolls are real nice, and the lighters are good and the ashtrays are excellente) or could point you to where the good ones lie...
but they might just send you to leith army store, and then i will hang my cyborg head in shame...

How about Sat 24th? Is that too early?
Todo:
1 Get balaclavas
2 Make and print a poster/flyer
3 Get some plastic stands to put on tables to hold the poster/flyer. They will be useful in the future for holding info about forest. I've heard they can be attained from local coffee chains and potterrow and teviot.
4 Dress up the ragdoll man like a zapatista
5 Whatever else was suggested
6 Let the Zapa solidarity people know
7 Get a Zapatista movie to show
8 Put Zapa day in the events book or on the events board or whatever
I can do 2 and attempt 3. Graeme already said he would do 1.

Balaclavas
I bought(and have gifted to the Forest) 4 balaclavas, they are in the office in a Leith Army Stores carrier bag.
I accept the moral and ethical implications of the purchase and will not be offended if other balaclavas/hats/bandanas are sourced and used.

i also have chairman mao coasters and placemats. my mum bought them for me.chombee wrote:All true revolutionaries do.they have good souveniers.
Infoseed has a giant Che Guevera poster. Perhaps we could borrow.

Okay if not Sat 24th then can we say Sat 31st? Does that clash with anything?
Maybe it should be a weekday? Like a Thursday or something? Isn't there a weekly movie night? Maybe we could steal that night and make it a Zapatista movie. We have to try and get a good Zapatista movie that the community activism working group didn't already show.

if and when the coffee arrives we coudl do it in the day/even next week. i would like to talk about associating the zapatistas with mao etc? i don't want to get too serious but really the zapas are different to any other revolution/ary and this is why i feel i want to support them, (mao for instance was responsible(partly) for the death of millions.).......do we need to think about associating us with either a socialist/communist thing?
am i talking shit?
who knows.......i would quite like to keep they day purely zapatista!
